A significant challenge faced by the handicraft artisans are the dependence on obsolete technology. The products such as wood, Terracotta, jewellery, Stone etc.  of Varanasi have not taken off as export quality despite strong design and aesthetic appeal due to the lack of technological advancement.

In view of above, the idea of distribution of Tool kits has been devised with an aim to improve the production techniques, improvement in quality of product, less wastage, reduce production time, low rejection and health & safety of the artisans. Accordingly with the technical support of expert organizations viz. the Central Tool Room, Ministry of Small & Medium Central (MSME) Ludhiana, Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI), Khurja, Stone Technology Centre, Jaipur and Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA) the improved tool kits on following crafts have been developed:-
